Fasting Well — Support
Hi. We’re a small team. Every email gets read.

If you’re in a hurry, the FAQs below cover the things most people ask first.
Getting started
How do I start my first fast?
Open the app, tap Start fast below the ring. The 16:8 plan is selected by default; you can change to another preset (or build your own) via the plan name at the top.
Which plan should I pick?
| Goal | Try |
|---|---|
| Lose weight | 16:8 (lean) or 18:6 |
| Mental clarity | 18:6 |
| Longevity | 36-hour Monk (occasional) |
| More energy | 14:10 (gentle) |
| Gut reset | 18:6 |
The Learn tab has more detail on each. If you’re new, start with 14:10 for a week before going longer.
Where does the timer live?
Tap the Timer tab (the flame icon). When a fast is active, the timer shows a ring with the current stage, elapsed time, and remaining time.
During a fast
What do the stages mean?
A fast moves through six biological phases. The ring color changes as you cross each one:
| Hours | Stage | What’s happening |
|---|---|---|
| 0–4 | Anabolic | Still digesting your last meal. |
| 4–16 | Catabolic | Glycogen feeding your brain; insulin falls. |
| 16–24 | Fat Burning | Lipolysis ramps up; ketones start. |
| 24–48 | Ketosis | BHB becomes a primary brain fuel; autophagy accelerates. |
| 48–72 | Deep Ketosis | Growth hormone peaks; autophagy at its strongest. |
| 72+ | Extended | A deep cellular reset — best done with a coach or doctor in the loop. |
Open the Learn tab → “The stages of a fast” for the long version.
Can I edit my start time?
Yes. On the active timer view, tap the Started card. Pick an exact time with the date-and-time picker, tap Now to snap it to the current moment, or use the nudge chips — −1h, −15m, +15m, +1h — to fine-tune. Your start can’t be set in the future.
What’s the difference between ending, discarding, and cancelling a fast?
These live on two different screens:
- End fast (the big button on the Timer) takes you to the “How did it go?” screen, where you log mood / energy / notes and tap Save & end fast to keep the fast in your journal. (Once you’ve passed your goal, that button reads End fast — log it.)
- Discard fast is the secondary button on that same “How did it go?” screen — it throws the fast away with no journal entry. Use it if you decide not to keep the one you were about to log.
- Cancel fast is the small link under the Timer button — it discards the active fast outright (no record) without opening the end screen. Use this if you started a fast by accident.
Will the app remind me about anything?
Yes, if you enable it. Settings → Notifications:
- Stage changes — celebrate each new stage
- Goal reached — when you hit your goal time
- Eating window closing — 30 min before your next fast resumes
All notifications are local — your phone schedules them, no server involved.
Apple Health / Health Connect
Will Fasting Well show up in Apple Health?
Yes, on iOS if you enable Settings → Health → Sync with Apple Health. Completed fasts are written as Mindful Minutes alongside meditation sessions. The app will also offer to import your most recent weight when you tap “Log weight.”
What about Google Fit / Health Connect on Android?
Same setting on Android. We currently only import weight from Health Connect — Google’s Health Connect doesn’t have a record type for fasting yet. We’ll add fast write-back when they ship one.
Custom protocols
How do I make a custom protocol?
Custom protocols are a Pro feature. Tap the plan name at the top of the Timer → Plans modal → scroll to Custom → Create custom protocol. If you’re not on Pro yet, that’s where you’ll see the upgrade screen; once you’re Pro, set your fast/eat hours, give it a name, and save. Protocols you’ve already built stay selectable and usable even without Pro.
Can I have multiple custom protocols?
Yes — you can create as many as you want. They all live in the Plans modal.
Data & export
Where is my data stored?
On your device, in the app’s local storage. There is no server, no account, no cloud sync.
How do I back up / export my data?
Settings → Data → Export fasts (CSV) or Export weights (CSV). The app generates a CSV file and opens the system share sheet so you can save it to Files, email it to yourself, etc.
How do I delete everything?
Settings → Data → Reset everything. This wipes every fast, weight, custom protocol, and preference instantly. It cannot be undone.
Will my data sync across my devices?
Not yet. If you reinstall or get a new phone, your data starts fresh. Optional iCloud / Google Drive backup is on the roadmap — email us if you’d like to be told when it ships.
Privacy
What does Fasting Well send to your servers?
We don’t have any servers that hold your fasting data. We use PostHog for anonymous usage analytics — see the full privacy policy at https://fastingwell.app/privacy for the exact list. Short version: we send the names of actions you take (e.g. “a fast was completed on the 18:6 plan”) but never the values (no weight numbers, no fast durations, no mood/notes content).
How do I turn analytics off?
Settings → Privacy → toggle off Share anonymous usage data. Takes effect immediately.
Pro tier
Is the app free?
Yes — the core of Fasting Well is free, with no ads and no aggressive paywalls. An optional Pro tier unlocks advanced features.
What’s “Fasting Well Pro”?
Pro unlocks custom protocols, weight tracking and the trend chart, shareable fast cards, advanced statistics (including the 12-week calendar heatmap), and all the accent color palettes. Your fasting history itself is always free and complete for everyone — Pro adds the 12-week heatmap view on top of it, not the history.
Pro comes in three options: a monthly subscription, an annual subscription (the best value), and a one-time lifetime unlock. The core timer, journal, stages, basic charts, CSV export, and Health Connect / HealthKit integration are free forever.
Troubleshooting
The app is stuck / crashed / behaving weirdly.
Force-quit and reopen. If it’s still broken, restart your phone. If it’s still broken, email hello@fastingwell.app with what happened — we’ll fix it.
I lost my fast / it didn’t save.
Open Settings → Data. If a fast didn’t make it into the Journal, it might still be in your active fast (if you didn’t tap End). If neither — and you’d been fasting for a while — email us and we’ll see if we can help recover from your local storage.
My notifications aren’t firing.
Check iOS Settings → Notifications → Fasting Well → make sure they’re enabled. Same on Android in Settings → Apps → Fasting Well → Notifications.
I can’t sync with Apple Health.
Open iOS Settings → Apps → Health → Data Access & Devices → Fasting Well → make sure all the toggles you want are on.
I can’t sync with Health Connect (Android).
Make sure Health Connect is installed (it’s pre-installed on Android 14+; earlier you may need to install it from the Play Store). Then in our Settings → Health, toggle sync on and grant permissions when prompted.
